L.A. Confidential TV Series In The Works

L.A. Confidential (1997)

Given enough time, we suppose every movie will eventually be considered for a TV adaptation. Yes, even Battlefield Earth. While that barrel has yet to be scraped, a much more prestige title is in the planning stages for a small screen version: L.A. Confidential.

The 1997 film adapted James Ellroy's crime classic, originally published in 1990 as the third part of his L.A. Quartet series of novels. Co-writer/director Curtis Hanson brought to life the seedy underbelly of glamorous 1950s Los Angeles as three homicide detectives, a reporter and an actress find themselves on a collision course. The result scored nine Oscar nominations and walked away with Best Supporting Actress for Kim Basinger and Best Adapted Screenplay for Hanson and and co-writer Brian Helgeland.

Now US network CBS has Gotham writer/producer Jordan Harper developing another version, which will see the cops, a female reporter and the actress in a similar situation, though obviously taking its time to tell the story, assuming the show hits the air. And that's not guaranteed – a pilot starring Kiefer Sutherland, Eric Roberts and more was shot shortly after the success of the movie, but it never saw air, ending up as a special feature on the film's DVD and Blu-Ray release.
