Terror, it would appear, is a family affair for the Conjuring films. Vera Farmiga has spent two movies looking into supernatural events as Lorraine Warren, and now her sister Taissa Farmiga has landed the key role in the latest spin-off from the horror franchise, The Nun.
The Hallow's Corin Hardy is directing the spin-off, which will explore more about the demonic nun character that Conjuring 2 director James Wan added during reshoots on the scary film.
Demian Bichir was recently cast to play a priest named Farther Burke who is sent by Rome to investigate the mysterious death of a nun. Farmiga will be playing said nun, which means she technically (though the ghoul in The Conjuring 2 was played by Bonnie Aarons) ends up scaring her own sister. Unless it's all a fake-out and she doesn't end up becoming the terrifying creature, but someone else does?
Wan and Gary Dauberman wrote the script and Hardy should have the cameras rolling this summer in Romania, headed for a 13 July US release next year. It'll be preceded by another spin-off, Annabelle: Creation, due here on 11 August.
